Freshman Diana Martinez gets her first hat trick in college.
The first game on the road was at Piedmont College. Temple showed good passages of play, but struggled without Junior Captain central defender Carly Hill. The final was 8-0
Next up was the first of two meetings with Wesleyan College. freshman forward Diana Martinez opened the scoring with a strike from distance that was to much to handle for the Wesleyan Keeper. Moments later she then made it two after running clear onto a through ball from freshman play maker Jessica Holcomb, who finished the game with two assists. Martinez then turned provider, sending Shelby Harmon in on goal to apply the finish making it three at the half. Wesleyan scored from a free kick late in the first half making it 3-1 at the break. The second saw more of the same as Diana Martinez rounded out a great performance, with one more goal and another assist giving freshman Shelby Harmon her second, and finishing the game with a hat-trick and two assists. The final goal came from an assist from Holcomb, with the finish applied by Jessie Salare. Wesleyan scored a late conciliation goal to make the final score 6-2.
On the third game of the road trip Temple ran into an in form Reinhardt University, who put five goals past them in the first half, on the way to an 8-0 final.
On Saturday the Lady crusaders made the trip to Marion, AL to face Judson college. Temple felt hopeful that they could surpass the number of wins the team had achieved last year. The first half was a pretty even affair with the teams sharing possession. Crusaders fell asleep on a quick free kick which lead to them going one goal down. As time went on in the first half, Temple seemed to be finding their stride only to be caught on the breakaway , which resulted in giving up a penalty which was converted, seeing them go two down. After a good passage of play Shelby Harmon, broke free from her marker only to see the Judson Keeper make the save of the game, diving to her right tipping the ball around the post. At half the game was 2-0 to Judson. A bright start by temple was thwarted when lightning called for a break in the game. Even more bizarre, was that freshman standout central defender, Megan Webster from Adairsville, GA was ruled unfit to play at the restart. After the break, the game become more open as temple searched for a goal and the clinical and very organized Judson college closed out the game.
"We are learning quickly and getting better every game, you can start to see that we are developing partnerships on the field" Coach Liburd.
Next up for the lady crusaders is a big week of home games. Temple, now 2-5 will host Huntingdon College, Wesleyan College and Lagrange college in search of their third win of the season.
